Back At The Grind Again

Well, what an interesting weekend it has been. Had a terrifically productive Saturday, culminating in the destruction of the Rant server by screwing up my iptables configuration. The server is now back up, and the new firewall works pretty good. It is a modified version of.... a secret firewall script. The system is locked down pretty effectively.

In unrelated news, I got to work on the ECU of the BOSS'S truck today. Makes for nervous workies that does. Anyways, it looks like I managed not to kill anything, so I still have my job!

Delayed the ride to WORK!

Delayed today's ride a little to set some things up on the Rant Server. Got a boatload of forums in place, as well as some neat home directory stuff for the main users. I have also added a forum to this site. As a final touch, I nuked the server by accidentally flushing all the firewall rules while the default chain was set to deny all connections. Ooops!

Went to Lifecycles yesterday and got a new set of pivots for my rear shock. I ride a brodie diablo (2001), and it wears out the pivots every few months of riding. No more clanking when I ride. Yay!

I think we are going to Seymour to ride today.

Wow. I needed to design a motion sensor that was capable of reading position rapidly and accurately for a "top secret project". Agilent makes a high speed quadrature output hiugh speed camera and motion sensing combo, but I was living in fear of the price, until I found This page on the topic. The result? Buy a $10CDN logitech optical mouse, dissect, and finish the device in one day. Yay!

Ugh. Need sleep. Sometimes I feel like I have to stay up late just in order to put off going to work. Strange, I know, but the longer I am awake, the more time I sense passing before I have to go back to the daily grind.

Of course, tomorrow morning while I am staring bleary eyed and bitter at the coffee machine, I may think different.

Wrote some scripts to automatically write and upload a redirect script to the main RantTV server every five minutes, so that you (the peeps) can get to my (home) site whenever DHCP kicks me in the ass.

Well.... Here it is. The first entry in space meat.

I suppose a little explanation is in order. You are looking at the top of the page and thinking to yourself... "Isn't this RantTV? Isn't there supposed to be video and crap here? Has ENKI gone on a bender?"

Nope.

In fact, Enki (hereafter referred to by my real name... Derek) is just fine.

I have been thinking a lot lately about the stuff I think up, and the progress (or lack thereof) that I make on most of it. The problem is not so much a lack of ability on my part, as it is a lack of follow through. Because of this, I am going to start posting my neato ideas on the site, and allowing people to carry on from where I leave of if they so wish. Kind of like open sourcing my head. Also, hopefully, this will force me to actually finish the odd project too. Crazy no?
