Back From Vacation
9:50AM Sept 2 2002

Just got back from vacation today. Helen and I went to Hope for camping, then Grand Forks for a visit with her sister, along with a couple of day trips to ride in Nelson. What a place. Helen and I want to buy a place in Nelson because the town is so cool (a little perpetually baked though).

SpaceMeat Has Moved, And Other Mild Annoyances
12:33pM Aug 19 2002

Because of some concerns about running a server on my Shaw account, I have moved the SpaceMeat page to the Rant Server. Unfortunately, I had written a very small shell script that automagically updated my address on the Rant Server. This script overwrote an update and left me screwed up for the index page. All is now fixed.

I also spent some time with family doing family things this weekend, so I got Z_E_R_O done on the mp3 system or server or anything this weekend. Lame.

Hangin With The KULTies
10:33AM Aug 15 2002

Quoth and I have hung out with a few of the old KULT members over the last couple of days. Smokehouse, Templar Knight, and CaponeX all dropped by on Tuesday, along with old Uncle Dak. We sat around and drank Guiness for a bit, and then they took off for the night. They dropped by the next day too (yesterday), and treated us to coffee. Nice guys. Overall it was nice to see some of the people that we talk to all the time, but whose faces we never get to see.

Needless to say, I got zip/zero/zilch done on either my robot or the mp3 player.

More Pix
2:04PM Aug 13 2002

I borrowed the work camera (bad Derek) and took a couple of pictures of the new dog. I also have some images up of the mp3 player and it's progress. Cool stuff.

Emma has been amazing over the last week. The best little mutt I could have hoped for. She is obedient and friendly, yet still independent. Perfect, to be blunt. Guess we'll keep her.

Not As Slack As I Seem
12:43PM Aug 12 2002

The last few days were spent working on a couple of things on the to do list as well as my MP3 Player project. The Charles Owor site is now up and functional, and I have placed several news engines and blogger utilities on it. Strange how I have written multiple blogger packages, and yet I don't use them personally.

Anyway, the other thing (the mp3 player) is progressing nicely. I have put the mobo in a 20mm rocket case (no kidding!), and have drilled and tapped holes directly in the high impact plastic. The power supply has been dissected, and should be in the box tonight. Software is written for the playback script. I have decided to integrate an rs232 interface into the project so that I can have a rotary encoder and input system on the computer as well. This way, I can have a really cool ass interface to control the whole thing with, and without the price hit of a touch screen or anything.

Sleep Is My Friend
3:09PM Aug 8 2002

Well, I'll get in poo for sure if anybody from work reads this blog. Seems like I am updating on company time. Anyways, I finally got a good night's sleep last night (a new baby will cut down on that), and now I am ready to continue on my projects a bit. I will be wiring in the power supply for the truck tonight (I hope), so tomorrow morning I should have standard 115V house sockets in the dashboard of my truck. I am going this route instead of a switching power supply for MP3 Player purely as a time/effort expedient. I am not selling the devices, so spending weeks developing a portable ATX power supply is a total waste of time.

Puppy Is Here
7:15PM Aug 7 2002

Puppy is here! YAY! Emma is amazingly well behaved, and lots of fun to play with. She can already sit, stay and heel. She doesn't even fight other dogs, just barks a little, and comes when you call her. Needless to say, not much else is getting done.

Finished Up A Client's Site
8:55AM Aug 5 2002

Yesterday was interesting... Helen and I had to puppy proof the house, since we are picking up a new puppy tomorrow. Isn't she CUTE?!?! Anyway, our nasty dirty house was not a safe environment for such an animal (Jack Russel cross, with blue heeler I think), so we spent the WHOLE DAY mopping, vaccuuming, and generally making the place safer. Additionally, I had to do some work on cleaning the cables up so that they were not chewable. They are now all stapled to the wall, and all of the computers are in a big rack mount case. Yay!

After all the cleaning, Helen and I had to make some modifications to a demo site for one of our clients. The Charles Owor Foundation site is one of our charity sites. We don't have gobs of money, nor do we have the ability to travel or work in soup kitchens, but when this opportunity to do something nice came up, we had to take it.

Missed A Few Days?!
8:33PM Aug 3 2002

Was busy working on some code for our main site that allows for editing multiple categories in our company site.
I am also in the process of building a CMS system based upon authenticating with the phpBB user base. This system should be going into production on RedPhive.org, as well as possibly RantRadio, and certainly the renewed RantTV when it comes back to life.
