Looks like I will be writing my own CAD-CAM bridge for Linux. The proprietary stuff is either crappy, or expensive. When it comes down to it, automated plunge roughing and contouring is just not that computationally difficult, although time optimization of the toolpaths might be.

Pythoncascade looks to be the answer.
